Welcome to the Yacapaca introduction to Structured Peer Assessment!
The first phase of the trial is aimed at answering one simple question:
"Does it work?"
Initial results (from half a dozen tests) have left me very optimistic but, at the same time, they have shown up lots of problems. There is a long way to go before we can expect any teacher to use this system with confidence in its accuracy and reliability.
Ultimately, what I want of you is that you use the prototype system with your students through this term, and give me regular feedback on the issues that come up as the system evolves.
Here's what is in the course:
Some initial information (in
this PDF file
, which you should have already have seen) and a pre-test. If I'm honest, the main function of this is to make sure that teachers going forward into the trial are active participants.
A student's experience of the system. You will take a written test using the prototype, then assess your colleagues using Thurstone ranking. Because of the way the system works, I have to get all the tests completed before we can start ranking, so there may be a short delay at this stage. At time of writing we only have 9 in the group, so quite manageable.
I will produce and share a screencast of your results.
We will have a live discussion on Skype/phone of issues that have come up. I hope we can find a time when you will be able to join in.
I will give you teacher-level access to the prototype. Support will be through an author-group message board, and 1:1 by phone where necessary.
I will regularly pester you for feedback, and will update you on new features as they are introduced - which is often daily.
So, here's the pre-test. Are you ready?
It's a very short test, but will require you to do some reading around the issue to get a high score.
