The tests and the survey were compiled from questions submitted by a group of 44 teachers from around the UK (plus one from New Zealand!). Before setting them, please read the really thorough teachers' notes .

The assessments available in the course are:

  1. Fireworks Science Quiz Mainly Chemistry.
  2. Guy Fawkes History Quiz (long) 20 questions for which students will need to do some research on the Parliament website. This will work best if you get students to work in teams, give them two attempts at the quiz and allow research time between attempts. The parliament website has quite a high vocabulary level; get round this with mixed-ability teams.
  3. Guy Fawkes History Quiz (short) Same as above, but only 10 questions are shown at each attempt. It is really interesting to use this version, then look at the whiteboard tool to see how you have got all the data about the class's state of learning even though each student only saw half the questions.
  4. Guy Fawkes Survey This looks at the historical and moral issues around the event itself, and the persecution of Catholics that preceded and followed it. Use in History or RE.
  5. My Firework Show Website (before/after version) A great ICT activity. Students build a complete mini-website which they can then show off to friends and family.
  6. My Firework Show Website (retrospective version) As above, but handy if you discover it too late to run a lesson before Nov. 5th.

N.B. The videos used in this course are embedded from Blip.tv . Blip is not as well-known as YouTube, but it may still be blocked in some schools. Until your lords and masters realise that banning educational content is not really in line with their mission, you should consider setting these assessments as homework. They make great   homeworks.
